Your nickname and age:
Darka: Darka Studio, 19 years old.
FoFu: Fofu Cosplay, 27 and 28 years old.
How did you discover cosplay and what made you start this hobby? How long ago?
D: I went to my first convention in 2012 with a friend, and I loved seeing people dressed up as my favourite characters. Since then, I couldn’t stop doing cosplay.
F: We’ve been doing cosplay for ten years. We learned little by little, learning from our mistakes. Fo knew cosplay before and Fu was a closet freak, it was a matter of time that she started enjoying this hobby.
What was the reason behind your costume choice for the ICL preselection? Is this your first time joining an international cosplay competition?
I chose Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. She’s a very strong character that achieves all her goals, and I love that kind of strong, independent female characters. This is my second time participating in an international cosplay competition.
F: We usually chose projects based on our likings. In this case, the queens from The Huntsman: Winter’s War was our choice because Fu loved the aesthetic and personality of Ravenna, she likes evil characters. Fo was dazzled by Freya’s suffering heart.
We didn’t think we would be able to join the ICL semifinals, we were going to join the regular competition instead. But in the end we changed our minds and we were selected for an international competition for the first time!
What does cosplay mean for you? And what is your favourite part of the hobby?
D: Cosplay is a very big part of my life; I even focused my studies in it. My favourite part is when you put together all the pieces of the costume that you spend so many hours working in, and you see how your hard work starts taking shape.
F: For us, cosplay is a way to enjoy with people. At first it was a way to express ourselves and have fun doing a project together. We love going out to look for the right materials, and we learned little by little. We like not only making detailed costumes, but knowing and sharing the hobby with new people.
What do you expect from your participation in ICL?
F: We expect to enjoy it a lot, feeling proud of our work and make people enjoy. We want to make them smile and share our excitement!
Have you decided your project for the finals in Madrid? Can you give us a clue?
D: Yeah, I already decided 😉
F: We decided it long ago, and we still have a lot to do. It’s going to be a surprise, so the only clue we can give is… Glamurous! And Musical! It’s going to be original and risky, but we’re really excited.
Describe the cosplay community in your country using five words.
D: Passion, originality, ingenuity, ambition, art.
F: Surprising, magical, kind, friendly, but sometimes complicated.
Where can we find your works?
